A **stay** is a record that a guest occupies a room on particular dates. It
carries check-in and checkout dates, a guest and, where you need it, a
reservation number from the system you sell in.

A **booking** is the same stay before check-in. The only difference is its
state: a booking has not been checked in yet.

A booking holds nights exactly as an active stay does. A second stay over the
same nights is refused — whether it is a booking or a check-in. That is what
lets the ATQAR calendar be read as an answer to ‘is this room taken’ without
checking anything else.

A stay that has checked in cannot be cancelled after the fact. It is closed by
a confirmed departure — the same fact a cleaning is raised from.

A stay carries no prices, rates or payments: those stay in the system you sell
rooms in.
